US Open Schedule

The US Open is the final Grand Slam event of the year and it’s a tournament that has a lot to live up to after a thrilling 2018 edition. This year’s US Open takes place from 26 August through 7 September at Flushing Meadows in New York City. It’s contested on outdoor hard courts at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, with Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium hosting the action. The tournament is played in a best-of-three-set format with a first to 10 tiebreaker at 6-all in the third set for women and a best-of-five-set format for men. There are day and night sessions and a retractable roof on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

This year’s competition features 128 players in the women’s singles draw, with 104 of them receiving direct entry and eight qualifying for the main draw. It’s a long road to become the champion, and there are plenty of other matches to watch as well. On the men’s side, it’s a deeper field than usual with only top seeds Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz receiving a bye into the second round of the event.

With the start of qualifying over and only four days left before this year’s US Open starts, fans have a lot to look forward to. For starters, the defending champion will be Novak Djokovic and he’ll kick things off on Wednesday with a match against world no. 145 Zachary Svajda in the second round of play. The full schedule will be released on/around Thursday (August 21-22) and you can follow all the action via the official US Open app. As usual, live TV coverage will air on ESPN, ESPN2, and across the pond Sky Sports has it covered for UK audiences.
