Asian Games 2026

The Asian Games 2026 will take place from September 19 to 4 October in the Aichi prefecture with Nagoya as its main hub. The multi-sport event is the biggest competition in Asia with a total of 32 sports and disciplines on the programme. Having missed out on hosting the Olympics in Tokyo and Hiroshima, Japan hopes to showcase its sporting prowess as a host of this important event.

Spectator interest will be high after the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics, with many fans still hungry for more live sport. Organizers hope the increased global attention will lead to an upswing in ticket sales for Aichi-Nagoya.

Organisers will be aiming to create an immersive experience for visitors. Shuttle buses will run between competition venues and the nearest public transport stations. Travel demand management measures, including public announcements to discourage private car use around Games-related facilities, will also be introduced.

Aichi-Nagoya is bringing together a number of partners to deliver a world-class Asian Games. These include local government agencies, sports, economic, and tourist organizations, mass media companies, businesses and more. Ultimately, the goal is to provide an unforgettable experience for athletes and spectators alike.

The Games will be held once every four years, and consists of 32 sports and disciplines, with all 45 National Olympic Committees who are members of the Asian Olympic Council expected to send delegations. They were first held in 1951, shortly after the end of World War II, as an opportunity to reestablish bonds among nations and contribute to everlasting peace in Asia.
