Asian Games 2026

Asian Games 2026

The Asian Games are the continent’s biggest multi-sport event, aiming to foster friendship through sports and contribute to the world peace. It is held every four years and has 45 participating countries and regions.

The Organising Committee has prepared a contingency plan to evacuate athletes in case of tsunami, typhoons or any natural disaster as Japan sits on the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’. The delegations of the 45 participating nations were briefed about it at a meeting of the Coordination Committee in Nagoya.

Besides ensuring a safe and secure environment for the athletes, the OCA also took into account their comfort and well-being. A new idea was mooted of locating athletes’ accommodation in cruise ships instead of building apartments. This would be cheaper, easier to manage and provide a better quality of life for athletes. The OCA will decide on this in the next Coordination Committee meeting.

Esports will be a medal-contending sport at the Asian Games for the first time. The 21-day event will include 41 sports and 58 disciplines across 55 competition venues. In addition, the 2026 edition will feature esports events – Arena of Valor Asian Games Version, DOTA 2, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, FIFA Online 4, League of Legends and PUBG. Indian teams are expected to perform strongly in esports, given their recent performances at the Hangzhou Games and in eFootball.

This year, Canon will establish a camera service center at the Games to offer technical support for professional photographers at each venue. It is an example of the company’s efforts to convey the thrill of sports through its imaging technology.
